EDITORIAL: Rep. Barry Moore is a trusted conservative leader who will make Alabama safe and prosperous

Alabama Republicans have a major choice in their primary runoff – but it should not be a difficult one. President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Barry Moore (R., Ala.), and we at the Washington Reporter believe that voters would be well-served by elevating Moore from the House to the Senate.

In 2015, Moore stood almost alone in endorsing Trump, long before Trump began his takeover of the GOP, and Trump rewarded Moore’s loyalty by giving him a full-throated endorsement, and by reiterating it after Moore’s first place showing in the initial primary.

But Trump’s support for Moore, while important, doesn’t even factor in Moore’s impressive policy chops that he’s developed in Congress. The Alabama lawmaker is one of the staunchest supporters of the president’s policies on affordability, for example. Moore is one of Congress’s foremost supporters of Trump Rx, one of the president’s signature policies that has already brought down drug prices for Americans.

Moore is also with the president on issues of public safety; when China floods American markets with illegal flavored e-cigarettes, Moore, like Trump, wants it halted.

Moore’s record in the House leaves no doubt what type of Senator he would be: a consistent conservative who fights for Alabama’s conservative values.

When Trump decided to do what no president dared to do — strike directly at the heart of Iran’s terrorist regime — Moore, himself a longtime military veteran, was with him every step of the way.

For President Trump’s final two years in office, he will need lawmakers by his side who have been by his side. He will also need lawmakers who know how to navigate the Swamp and how to deliver for Trump and for his agenda.

Congressman Barry Moore has spent years doing all of that, and more. We hope that Alabama Republicans join President Trump in sending Congressman Moore back to Washington.
