SCOOP: Democrats' town hall protests backfire in Wisconsin
Rep. Bryan Steil (R., Wis.) has faced down the left at both his home and at his town hall in recent days, and has emerged unscathed, despite his opponents’ antics involving support for Palestinian terrorists and how several hauled a coffin to his front door.
During Steil’s latest in-district town hall, he came across as sensible, and he repeatedly lured far-left protesters into ideological traps, on questions of basic patriotism and on terrorism. Several booed the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the town hall; one even knelt at the front of the auditorium.
“If you’re like me, you believe that we live in the greatest country in the world,” Steil said — to a chorus of boos from the audience in Elkhorn. Much of the protest was reportedly organized by the left-wing group Indivisible.
At another juncture, Steil explained that the easiest solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestinian terrorists in Gaza is for “Hamas to surrender and release their hostages.” Steil was heavily booed by leftist agitators when he made the demand that Hamas surrender. The audience also booed Steil when he correctly noted that “Israel was unfairly and unjustly attacked by Hamas terrorists.”
The moderator of Steil’s town hall ultimately ended the event, telling the audience that “we are going to close it off here, because there is no point in continuing.”
Steil, for his part, told the Washington Reporter that the left’s tactics are only steeling his resolve. “I will not be deterred by the actions of those on the fringe left or from Democratic leaders,” he said. “There is too much work to be done to get this country back on track.”
