Marsha Blackburn rolls out amendments to strengthen the Laken Riley Act
Sen. Marsha Blackburn has a trio of amendments that will help President Donald Trump secure there border. Here's what they do...
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.) is working to strengthen the bipartisan Laken Riley Act.
Blackburn is introducing three key amendments to the bill, her team told the Washington Reporter: the CLEAR Act, the Advanced Border Coordination Act, and a provision to allow for additional defense space for criminal illegal immigrants.
Blackburn’s border security provisions come as she wages a potential 2026 gubernatorial bid. Her CLEAR Act amendment deprives sanctuary cities and states of federal funds, her Advanced Border Coordination Act will help improve communication and coordination between federal and state/local law enforcement at the southern border, and her detention space amendment requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to add additional detention space for illegal immigrants who commit criminal while their deportations are pending. Blackburn is partnering with Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D., Nev.) on the Advanced Border Coordination Act.Pam Bondi during her confirmation hearing.
Graham noted that America needs increased detention space for illegal immigrants so that what happened to Laken Riley can be avoided in the future; Blackburn’s provision would help make that the case.
