Sen. Jon Ossoff (D., Ga.) is under fire back home in Georgia for what many view as his hypocrisy in campaigning against the influence of billionaires in American politics.

For years, Ossoff’s campaigns have been funded by some of America’s most prominent billionaires, including ones tied to Jeffrey Epstein, like Reid Hoffman. “Corruption in America runs a lot deeper than Donald Trump,” Ossoff said in one of his typical speeches. “Even before he came on the scene, America had the most corrupt political system in the Western World. It’s been running on corporate money, secret money, billionaire money…Senators get threatened every day with millions and millions of dollars of attack ads.”

According to campaign finance records obtained by the Washington Reporter, almost 100 billionaires have donated to Ossoff since 2017. Since the 2024 election alone, at least 39 non-Georgian billionaires have donated to Ossoff, including George Soros and the Pritzker family.

Unsurprisingly, Rep. Mike Collins (R., Ga.) — Ossoff’s 2026 opponent — takes issue with Ossoff’s hypocrisy, telling the Reporter that he sees it as part of a broader pattern of Ossoff campaigning one way in Georgia and speaking completely differently to his donors.

“It’s typical for Jon Ossoff to lie to Georgians and then cozy up to his far-left, coastal liberal donors,” Collins said. “He’s weak, woke, running scared, and he’s bought and paid for by New York and California donors who don’t understand or care about Georgia’s values or culture.” 

But Collins is not alone in criticizing Ossoff. Rep. Rick Allen (R., Ga.) views Ossoff’s rhetoric as hollow as well, arguing that “Ossoff can’t be trusted” as a result. “In Georgia, Jon Ossoff says he’s fighting billionaires’ influence in politics, but then he flies to D.C. and cashes their checks.”

While Rep. Clay Fuller (R., Ga.) is one of the newest members of Congress, he too noted that Ossoff’s rhetoric is starkly different than his results. 

“Jon Ossoff says billionaire money is why nothing works for ordinary people, then turns around and cashes big checks from his billionaire donors,” Fuller said. “The hardworking Georgians I represent expect straight talk from their leaders and are tired of secret backroom deals for rich donors at their expense.”
