EDITORIAL: October 7, conservatives, and the Washington Reporter
We are proud to have many outstanding op-eds today on the importance of October 7 and what it means for America. We encourage you to read them all.
As the editors, we want to add two points.
First, Conservatives should recognize the stakes.
The alliance between Islamist extremists and the Marxist left has a common enemy in Israel. The hostility reaches well beyond the Jewish state. The same people who hate Israel and celebrated October 7 also, without fail, hate America, Biblical Christianity, capitalism, and the West.
Conservatives can debate foreign aid, military commitments, and particular decisions by Israel’s government. But we should never make common cause with the Islamist movement that celebrates Hamas while calling for the elimination of the one Jewish state.
Second, at the Washington Reporter, we support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship because it is good for America. Israel is an important ally against the terrorists who threaten both our countries.
That position is unpopular in some quarters, including, alarmingly, on some parts of the right.
We don’t care.
Three years after October 7, we continue to proudly stand with Israel.
