Senate Republicans are quickly rallying behind Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton following his decisive win in the GOP primary runoff.
The Washington Reporter exclusively obtained an invitation that Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) is emceeing on Paxton’s behalf in Washington, D.C. Joining Cruz in cohosting the event for Paxton are Sens. Jim Banks (R., Ind.), Katie Britt (R., Ala.), Tom Cotton (R., Ark.), Bernie Moreno (R., Ohio), Eric Schmitt (R., Mo.), and Tim Sheehy (R., Mont.).
President Donald Trump endorsed Paxton in the final days of his primary runoff against Sen. John Cornyn (R., Texas), which Paxton went on to win convincingly. While Cornyn, a former National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Chair, had most Senate Republicans in his corner, Paxton is quickly rallying the GOP faithful during his first days as the GOP’s nominee.
Paxton will need all of the help that he can get matching the fundraising prowess of Texas State Representative James Talarico, who has already raised tens of millions of dollars, shattering fundraising records in the process.
But, as Paxton heads towards a November clash with the far-left Democrat, he will have support from across his party. Cornyn all but endorsed him shortly after the primary, and Cornyn allies, like Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R., S.D.) and Tim Scott (R., S.C.), who had backed Cornyn in the primary, quickly rallied behind Paxton.
“Losing is not an option when it comes to the state of Texas and what it means for our majority in the Senate,” Thune said. Other Senate Republicans, like Majority Whip John Barrasso (R., Wyo.) immediately endorsed Paxton as well.
