Rep. Mike Collins’s (R., Ga.) colleagues in the House are eager to see Georgia voters promote him to serve across the Hill with them next year. Following Collins’s first-place finish in the primary election, he secured support from several GOP heavy-hitters in the House, including one member who is all but guaranteed to be in the upper chamber next year.
Rep. Steve Scalise (R., La.), the House GOP’s Majority Leader, said that he’s endorsing Collins “because Georgia deserves a workhorse who will fight for them, not an empty suit who votes in lock step with Bernie Sanders. Mike has delivered big results for Georgia families, making communities safer and securing America’s border.”
Collins, Scalise said, is “a small business owner, father, and public servant, [who is] a dedicated conservative who knows putting Georgia First means working with anyone willing to deliver results for the Peach State. Mike Collins is the fighter Georgia needs to send Jon Ossoff and his far-left friends packing in November.”
While Collins has campaigned as the most MAGA-aligned candidate in the race, in the 2024 cycle, he was a consummate GOP team player, helping candidates like Derrick Anderson in their races in tossup districts. The Washington Reporter was on-scene for a campaign swing in Virginia that Collins did with Anderson during the latter’s 2024 bid. While Collins-backed candidates didn’t all win, his efforts earned him plaudits among his colleagues.
Rep. Tom Emmer (R., Minn.), whose job as the House GOP’s Whip is made easier by having more Republicans, likewise endorsed Collins after the vote, calling him a “friend and MAGA warrior.”
Among Collins’s latest endorsements was an important local one as well — Rep. Brian Jack (R., Ga.), a close Trump ally and one of Collins’s fellow Georgia Republican congressmen, came off the sidelines.
“Mike Collins is a conservative workhorse, a proven legislator, and a steadfast supporter of President Trump and his America First agenda,” Jack said. “Mike knows our district incredibly well, as his father, Mac, honorably represented us in Congress for 6 terms, leaving a lasting legacy in the many counties he once served.”
Jack is used to winning primary runoffs; he noted that during his own just two years ago, “Mike Collins stood by me, and rallied support for my campaign across our district. Now, as Mike proceeds to a runoff, I’m proud to do the same, and endorse my friend and colleague, Mike Collins, for the United States Senate.”
Should Collins win his primary, he will then have a daunting task of ousting the well-funded Sen. Jon Ossoff (D., Ga.). But, Rep. Kevin Hern — who has a lock on Oklahoma’s open Senate seat — is eager to continue working with Collins.
Collins, Hern said, is “a proven conservative, an effective legislator, and a strong supporter of President Trump and the America First Agenda. There’s no doubt that Mike is the right choice to represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate and has what it takes to win in November.”
While Collins won’t be returning to the House, he’s left an impact on some of the higher-profile freshmen he’s severed with, like Rep. Brandon Gill (R., Texas) who gave Collins his “complete endorsement,” calling “MAGA Mike Collins [] the true conservative in the race.”
