SCOOP: Rep. Ben Cline weighs in on sign wars with his Democratic colleague

  • November 6, 2025
The Washington Reporter

Rep. Ben Cline defends the House GOP’s record following a childish sign from his neighbor down the hall and from across the aisle.

Rep. Ben Cline (R., Va.) is fact-checking his colleague down the hall and across the aisle, who is falsely claiming that House Republicans have done “nothing” to help working families.

Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D., Fla.), who is perhaps best-known for self-funding her campaign to the tune of millions of dollars that led to the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) referring her to the Department of Justice, put up the sign in question.

However, her office neighbor, Rep. Ben Cline (R., Va.) decided to fact check her claim with signs of his own that told the truth. Cline’s response sign includes just some of what House Republicans have delivered for working families.

Among those wins are “provid[ing] $50 billion to protect rural hospitals and health care access for rural Americans,” “permanently extend[ing] a 20% deduction for 30 [million] small businesses,” “eliminat[ing] taxes on Social Security for 88% of seniors,” and providing “$9 billion to improve servicemember quality of life with better housing, education, and pay.”

Cline explained to the Washington Reporter that while “Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick is a friend, [] the sign outside her office simply isn’t accurate.”

“House Republicans have been delivering real results for the American people, from cutting taxes for working families, to extending policies that help small businesses grow, to ensuring our troops have the support they deserve,” Cline added. “To claim that House Republicans have done nothing for the American people, while voting repeatedly to keep the government shut down, is just wrong.”
