A recent report by Politico which claimed that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is being rejected by several of the people who were in the room, who told the Washington Reporter that Politico’s claims are misleading, at best.
Politico reported that the NRSC “is shifting its focus away from the North Carolina and Georgia Senate races as it works to shore up red states like Texas and flip other Democratic-held seats.”
But, one senior Senate leadership aide who was in the meeting, told the Reporter that those races remain squarely on the NRSC’s map. “At no point was it said, or even insinuated, that the NRSC was leaving North Carolina and Georgia behind,” the aide told the Reporter. “Politico was either badly misinformed about — or willfully misrepresented — the content of the meeting.”
Sen. Tim Scott (R., S.C.) himself, who chairs the NRSC, called Politico’s story “hogwash,” saying that “the media is desperate to hand Democrats a win, but this is a new low.”
The NRSC’s Communications Director, Joanna Rodriguez, called Politico’s story “completely fabricated.” Rodriguez said that it “should be retracted and Politico should be embarrassed. Chairman Scott didn’t make any spending announcements at lunch and he praised Michael Whatley as an example of a candidate who has polling momentum on his side.”
Nate Brand, one of Scott’s top aides and an NRSC alum, further pushed back on the report, noted that “there are slides, U.S. Senators, and staff who can and will tell you that this story is completely bogus.”
