Analyses by groups like North Carolina’s John Locke Foundation highlight the recently proposed very-low nicotine (VLN) “standard, which would reduce nicotine in cigarettes to minimally addictive levels, and a ban on menthol-flavored cigarettes. Both would dramatically alter the demand for traditional tobacco products, leading to massive revenue and job loss,” the John Locke Foundation’s CEO, Donald Bryson, noted in a recent op-ed.
North Carolina is at the forefront in the battle for control of the House; Republicans are expected to net several seats via redistricting, and the election between Rep. Don Davis (D., N.C.) and Republican Laurie Buckhout is expected to be one of the most competitive this cycle.
