SCOOP: Rep. Mike Flood's latest move could get Rep. Ilhan Omar expelled
Rep. Mike Flood laid out his strategy to the Washington Reporter.
Following Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D., Minn.) repeated tirades against Charlie Kirk after his assassination, Rep. Nancy Mace (R., S.C.) introduced a measure to censure the lawmaker.
Mace’s measure narrowly failed after four Republicans, including Rep. Mike Flood (R., Neb.), joined with all Democrats to table it. But Flood’s move to table the resolution is in no way an endorsement of Omar’s conduct.
The Nebraska lawmaker immediately announced plans to refer Omar to the House Ethics Committee, which, he explained to the Washington Reporter, could go far beyond a censure.
“She can get expelled from this move, not just censured,” he said.
Flood wants an ethics investigation prior to a move to censure Omar — but the Minnesota Democrat can’t be happy with the contents of what he sent to the Ethics Committee.
Flood’s referral includes “18 very concerning incidents and/or behaviors and/or statements that, on their face, reflect poorly on the House of Representatives.”
The first on the list is Omar’s “obnoxious, insulting and dismissive comments following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.” But Flood’s list shows how closely he’s been keeping tabs on Omar.
“Second, harboring illegal immigrants,” Flood explained. “I believe in February of this year that Omar hosted a workshop advising Somalians on how to avoid being deported after protecting the laws of the United States. No. 3, she's used TikTok for mixed official and campaign content, which specifically violates other House rules.”
