EXCLUSIVE: Susan Collins opponent bashes anti-"fascist" fundraising texts while sending anti-"fascist" fundraising texts
The Democrats’ best hope of finally beating Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine) may be an unvetted, far-left, anti-Israel oysterman who says that he hates fundraising, while he simultaneously asking for one dollar donations to fight “fascism.”
According to fundraising texts sent by Graham Platner and obtained by the Washington Reporter, the newly-minted Senate candidate is asking for one dollar donations to “defeat Susan Collins & protect our democracy from fascism.”
These texts may be unwelcome news to Platner himself, who recently tweeted that “nothing pisses me off more than getting a fundraising text from Democrats talking about how they’re fighting fascism… Because it’s such bullshit. We’re not idiots. Everyone knows most of them aren’t doing jack shit right now to fight back.”
The Platner campaign did not respond to request for comment about why his anti-fascist fundraising plea is different from anti-fascist fundraising pleas of other Democrats.
While Platner’s text campaign only asks for a dollar donation, when the Reporter clicked on the link, the button to make any donation monthly was preselected, suggesting that Platner may be employing both deceptive and disingenuous fundraising tactics in his nascent campaign.
In the weeks since Platner launched his campaign, he has garnered support from some of the most radical lawmakers in America, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.).
Platner’s emergence has complicated matters for Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D., N.Y.) potential attempts to recruit Maine’s outgoing governor, Janet Mills, to challenge Collins.
