Barrett’s ad slams “corrupt lobbyist Curtis Hertel” for being part of the same system that backs using “your taxpayer dollars to give free benefits to illegals.” In addition to Hertel saying that he opposes deporting “anybody,” Hertel also said that America “owes a debt” to illegal immigrants — remarks that Barrett slammed to the Reporter.

“Curtis Hertel pretends to be this ‘regular guy’ in his TV commercials,” Barrett said. “‘Regular Guy’ is even printed on his apron and beer bottles. But voters in Michigan now know where he really stands on the issues important to them…No one is buying this ‘Mr. Bipartisan’ nonsense he’s pushing. Hertel’s radical agenda on immigration is dangerous and wrong. He will, with almost certainty, support more of the disastrous Biden-Harris border policies that led to the crisis at hand.”

The race between Barrett and Hertel is one of the most expensive in the country. A polling memo Barrett’s campaign sent to the Reporter shows Barrett leading, 47.1 percent to Hertel’s 43.4 percent. Read that memo here.
