Five influential conservative groups expressed support for the AMERICA Act, Sen. Mike Lee’s (R., UT) legislation that would prohibit technology giants from owning more than one part of the online ad ecosystem, impacting primarily Google and Meta, this week.
While this legislation already has bipartisan support, the mass backing is noteworthy because these groups — Heritage Action, American Principles Project, ACT for America, the New York Young Republicans, and the Bull Moose Project — have sway among Republicans.
In a letter to Senators Dick Durbin (D., IL.) and Amy Klobuchar (D., MN.) shared exclusively with the Washington Reporter, the groups request “urgent action in passing the AMERICA Act.”
“Allowing a single, dominant company to own multiple parts of the digital advertising ecosystem allows it to gather massive amounts of data that it then uses to advantage its own products, rather than fairly competing in the market,” the conservative groups caution.
Expect more Senate sponsors soon. The potential for this bill getting included in an end-of-year spending package is, we hear, high.
