President Donald Trump visited a Ford plant in Michigan to showcase how his administration and Republican policies are working to make American-made cars and trucks more affordable.
While touring the Ford River Rouge Complex, the president highlighted multiple affordability wins for working families, pointing to falling vehicle prices, lower gas costs, and new tax relief aimed squarely at buyers of U.S.-built vehicles. Trump and the White House have used Ford’s trucks to show how “America First” policies are delivering results for consumers. The White House praised Ford for leaning into affordability and investing billions to make vehicles at home.
“President Trump pledged to restore American auto industry dominance and turn the page on Joe Biden’s economic disaster,” White House Spokesman Kush Desai said. “Much work remains, but with inflation cooling and billions in auto manufacturing investments flowing into the United States, President Trump’s visit to Michigan showcased the difference that strong, commonsense leadership makes.”
Lawmakers and Republican officials said that Trump’s visit and remarks were a sign of the administration’s commitment to lower costs for Americans.
Ford recently announced that the company plans to produce more affordable, U.S.-built trucks, including new internal-combustion models marketed to families on a budget. Administration officials framed the move as validation of Trump’s rollback of costly regulations and his use of tariffs to strengthen domestic supply chains.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) praised the administration’s commitment to affordable vehicles, telling the Washington Reporter that “thanks to President Trump’s policies and the Working Families Tax Cut, Arkansans and all Americans will have more choices for lower-cost vehicles free from harmful D.C. mandates. We will continue fighting for working families who need lower costs and bigger paychecks.”
Joanna Rodriguez, the Communications Director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) also told the Reporter that “Senate Republicans are working with President Trump to make sure Americans have affordable vehicles and to end harmful D.C. mandates from the Biden administration.”
Former Congressman and current Senate candidate in Michigan Mike Rogers told the Reporter the president’s trip was another sign of an economic resurgence: “The Great American comeback is underway, and I will be the backup President Trump needs in the Senate to keep making life more affordable for working families,” Rogers said.
President Trump referenced his affordability agenda on other topics on the Ford factory floor, including lower gas costs, grocery costs, and policies from the Republicans Working Families Tax Cut like deducting interest on auto loans to help middle-class families. Trump pointed to lower insurance and maintenance costs, cheaper gas, and a new policy allowing interest on auto loans for American-made vehicles to be tax deductible — a change the White House says directly helps middle-class families.
The Reporter previously spoke with Senator Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.) about the benefit of lower-cost gas vehicles to working-class families.
