President Donald Trump’s effort to lower prescription drug costs continues to gain support among Senate Republicans, with Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) calling TrumpRx “an important step forward” for making medicines more affordable and improving price transparency.

Banks made the comments in a letter to the Food and Drug Administration that was primarily focused on concerns surrounding Hims & Hers and the marketing of compounded GLP-1 products. The Indiana senator used the conclusion of the letter to deliver a clear endorsement of TrumpRx and the Trump administration’s broader effort to reduce prescription drug costs.

“I applaud the Trump administration’s efforts to make prescription medicines, including GLP-1s, more affordable and accessible,” Banks wrote. “TrumpRx is an important step forward for greater price transparency.”

The comments add another influential Republican voice to the growing list of lawmakers praising the initiative.

The Washington Reporter has previously reported on support for TrumpRx from lawmakers across the country, including members of Congress who have highlighted the program’s role in lowering costs for seniors, families, and patients struggling with the rising price of prescription medications.

Banks’ endorsement is particularly notable given his position as one of the Senate’s leading conservative voices and a close ally of the Trump administration. Since arriving in the Senate, Banks has quickly become a prominent figure on issues ranging from national security to healthcare and government oversight.

His comments also come as affordability remains a central political issue for voters. Republicans have increasingly argued that lowering healthcare costs should remain a priority alongside efforts to reduce inflation, expand domestic manufacturing, and strengthen economic growth.

The Indiana senator’s letter specifically referenced GLP-1 medications, one of the fastest-growing categories of prescription drugs in the country. TrumpRx has drawn attention for helping patients access lower-cost options for a range of medications, including popular weight-loss and diabetes treatments.

Banks also urged federal regulators to examine whether certain industry pricing practices may be working against efforts to lower costs for consumers. In the letter, he encouraged the FDA to review whether some practices could be “intentionally undermining TrumpRx.”

The endorsement provides another sign that support for TrumpRx is expanding among Republican lawmakers. As more elected officials publicly embrace the program, it is becoming an increasingly visible part of the administration’s broader affordability agenda.

The FDA has been asked to respond to Banks’ letter by June 26.
