National Republicans are tying Sen. Bill Cassidy (R., La.) directly to the Trump agenda as the Louisiana senator runs for reelection in 2026.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is praising Cassidy, in a video obtained exclusively by the Washington Reporter, for how he and President Donald Trump delivered for Louisianans via the Working Family Tax Cuts (WFTC).
“Working families deserve better,” the NRSC’s ad notes. “That’s why Senator Bill Cassidy passed President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts. And delivering the largest tax cuts in history.” The video was part of a nationwide digital ad released in 22 states, including all Senate Republicans who supported the Working Families Tax Cuts.
“In Louisiana, that relief is real,” the ad continues. “With up to $5,400 more in wages. Up to $9,200 more in take-home pay for a family of four. And 700,000 seniors benefiting from no tax on Social Security. And delivered more than $208 million for rural health care in Louisiana. And extended tax deductions for nearly 64,000 Louisiana small businesses…Senator Bill Cassidy and President Trump kept their promise and delivered the largest tax cut in history.”
Senate Republicans have pulled out all of the stops ahead of Louisiana’s May primary; in addition to the NRSC’s latest signal of support, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R., S.D.) joined Cassidy for a high-dollar fundraiser in Baton Rouge, as the Reporter previously reported. That event raised over $650,000 in one evening.
Both Thune and the NRSC back Cassidy, and the Reporter first reported that the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America Candidate Fund endorsed Cassidy’s reelection in January. At that time, Marjorie Dannenfelser, SBA Pro-Life America’s president, said that “Cassidy has led the fight for accountability on dangerous mail-order abortion drugs that are endangering women, driving abortions higher and undermining the laws of pro-life states like Louisiana.”
Cassidy, who has done multiple interviews with the Reporter about his pro-life views, is one of the Senate GOP’s leading advocates for pro-life causes. “Our state is very concerned about the vulnerable,” he explained in an interview. “Our state is very concerned about that child who’s in utero. There’s a strong backbone of people of faith who recognize that that child in utero is a life in utero, and they don’t want that child’s life to be snuffed out. We want to support the young lady. You’ve gotta be pro-life and support the young lady, and you’ve got to be pro-life and support the child, and my state understands that.”
In addition to his national support, Cassidy recently embarked on a statewide tour, highlighting the WFTC wins for Louisiana families; his ear toward local issues is one of the biggest reasons that beauticians are now exempted from the “No Tax on Tips” portion of the WFTC.
“There’s a guy who owns some haircut stores, Jeremy Aydell, and he heard we were going to exempt tips for waiters and bartenders, and he calls up and says, ‘wait a second. Why not exempt tips for people who wash your hair and cut your hair?’” Cassidy told the Reporter in an interview. “And Jeremy has a point, and because Jeremy called my team, now those people doing your hair and beauticians are included in those who don’t pay tax on tips. So there’s a lot of folks in my state that do that. I also want to say, that’s a great example of representative government, where somebody being represented calls up and says, ‘what about me?’ And it turns out they’ve got a good argument, and they were included; that’s really a positive thing.”
