President Donald Trump is closing out the election with unprecedented levels of support with Latino voters, including the critical voting bloc of Puerto Ricans, according to the latest Univision polling. Univision shows that President Trump has increased his support since the 2020 election with Puerto Rican voters by 3 points in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania.
According to polling trends, Trump is actually poised to improve his support with Hispanic voters. In fact, his support is 13 points higher than 2020, and 21 points higher than his 2016 numbers. Nationally, Trump’s margins with the broader Latino community are likely to be the closest of any Republican in recent history, according to polls from outlets like NBC News.
President Trump’s Puerto Rican surge likely comes as a surprise given the media focus on a comedian who opened for Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden. Those remarks were widely criticized as offensive, including from Republicans like Sen. Rick Scott (R., Fla.). Just days later, President Joe Biden was also criticized for calling Trump supporters “garbage.” We should note, the offensive comments about Puerto Rico did not come from President Trump himself, but the “garbage” comments did come directly from President Biden, not a surrogate.
To Trump’s supporters in the Hispanic community, these results are no surprise. “This election cycle we are seeing President Trump blow the doors off of the Hispanic vote,” Rep Anna Paulina Luna (R., Fla.) told the Reporter. “The Hispanic demographic has rejected the notion of open borders, radical left ideas that attack family values, and an economy that is destroying many of our small businesses.”
A Trump world source added to the Reporter that “The Atlantic gets it wrong yet again. I forgot they even existed. President Trump has strong support with Puerto Rican voters. They love his strength on the economy and handling border security. His historic support with Hispanic voters broadly will propel his victory on Tuesday.”
Those remarks were echoed by Luna, who noted that Trump’s strength with Hispanic voters goes well beyond Pennsylvania, and even her home state of Florida, where his strength with the Cuban community helped turn the state red.
“We are finding that in swing states like Nevada and Arizona President Trump is leading by a large margin,” she said. “Kamala Harris lost over 300,000 migrant children, turned a blind eye to the rape and trafficking of Hispanic women and children at the southern border, and her vice president nominee gave taxpayer dollars to a corporation that was hiring migrant children to clean slaughter houses. If you think we’re going to vote for this woman, think again.”
