Iran has been waging war on America for 47 years. President Donald Trump didn’t start this war — he’s just the first president with the gall to finally fight back. And for that, every American should be thankful. Here’s why Trump’s strikes on the Iranian terrorist regime are correct, timely, and the right path to make America safer and more prosperous.
First, let’s remember that Iran has been killing Americans for 47 years. The killing started when Iran held Americans hostage in our own embassy in 1979. It continued with the bombing of our Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983, the attack on Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, the killing and maiming of thousands of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan with Iranian-made roadside bombs, and, most recently, the murder of three U.S. Army soldiers at Tower 22 in Jordan in January 2024. President Joe Biden called that attack “despicable.” Then he did nothing about it.
It’s sadly understandable why Iran thought it could continue killing Americans, building a nuclear weapons program, and building thousands of ballistic missiles. Iran was emboldened by past presidents being too weak, distracted, or compromised to stand up to Iran. Trump is different.
As Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) has made clear, Iran possesses thousands of ballistic missiles, far more than the U.S. and Israel have in missile defenses combined. And as Cotton warned recently, that imbalance “only gets worse every single month.” Iran has been building missiles faster than the U.S. can build defenses. Iran has been developing missiles that can reach not just the Middle East, but Europe, and America. Anyone who thinks we should sit by and allow this to happen is naive at best.
Then consider the cost Iran has imposed on every American family. How much of our defense budget goes to containing this terrorist regime? How much have energy prices increased due to Iranian threats to the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian-backed Houthi attacks on global shipping, or the instability Iran exports across the region? Iran has made groceries more expensive, gas more expensive, and the world more dangerous.
And this is a regime that tried to kill the President of the United States twice. Federal prosecutors, even in the pro-Iran Biden administration, laid out the evidence that Iranian-backed operatives recruited assassins, conducted surveillance, and plotted to murder Trump during his presidential campaign.
You have to have a lot of faith to miss the divine intervention in Trump’s story. Trump survived assassination by a millimeter because he turned his head at just the right time. He came back as president after being indicted four times and facing the full force of the federal government, the press, and nearly every institution in the U.S. He won the first time despite having no political experience and fierce opposition from almost every institution. Trump said that God protected him so he could protect America, and we think he is right — he was put in this role for such a time as this.
To conservatives who are wavering on Iran, look at who is on the other side of this issue. Radical “squad” members Reps. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.), New York Mayor and Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris. These are Marxists who are wrong about everything else. Do you really think they’re right about this?
We think Trump’s strikes on Iran can be a political win for Republicans because Americans respect strength and know Iran is a threat. We covered polling showing that most voters back action; we even discussed that polling in one of our recent interviews with the president himself.
But even if the politics were bad, the president would still be doing the right thing by ridding the world of the Iranian terrorist menace. Donald Trump is not up for reelection. He is doing the right thing for the security of the American people and the stability of the world.
We are thankful for this president. We are thankful for his leadership, his decisiveness, and his willingness to do what no president before him had the courage to do. Thanks to Trump, 47 years of Iranian terror and aggression may finally end.
