The Republican chairmen of the House Oversight, House Judiciary, and House Ways and Means Committees delivered criminal referrals to the Department of Justice for President Joe Biden’s brother James and his son Hunter on Wednesday, the Washington Reporter has exclusively learned. The criminal referrals come after Republicans on the Oversight Committee alleged that the well-connected Bidens lied to Congress.
Weeks after the President and Hunter refused to appear before the committee, Oversight chair Rep. James Comer (R., Ky.), alongside Reps. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio) and Jason Smith (R., Mo.) issued the referrals, writing in the letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland that “the amount of money the Biden family has received from concerning companies and individuals is alarming.”
This letter follows ongoing probes from the committees these Republicans helm into the Biden family’s foreign business dealings that have so far stoked outrage from the White House, which dismisses the claims as “false and unsupported allegations.” However, the Oversight Committee has uncovered documents that reveal the Biden family and its associates have received at least $20 million in payments from foreign adversaries, including from China, Russia, and Ukraine. In addition, Comer’s investigation has uncovered first hand witness testimony from Devon Archer, a former business associate who has been pictured with President Biden. According to Archer, President Joe Biden was the brand being sold to foreign governments and companies.
A source familiar with the referrals told the Reporter that “Joe Biden is central figure in the influence peddling scheme. They lied to protect him.”
This has been a chaotic legal week for the Biden family: In addition to receiving Comer’s criminal referrals, Hunter Biden is on trial in Delaware for allegedly lying about his illegal drug use on a federal background-check form while purchasing a gun in 2018. President Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts in New York last week, but the former president has used his convictions to fundraise unprecedented amounts of money. He continues to lead in the polls post indictment according to Morning Consult.
Another source familiar with the referrals told the Reporter that “the Trump DOJ could prosecute Hunter and James for lying to Congress. This is the same charge Garland prosecuting Roger Stone.”
