EXCLUSIVE: TrumpRx gains another backer as leading FL candidate Austin Rogers praises President Trump’s push to lower drug costs

Florida congressional candidate Austin Rogers is the latest Republican leader to praise President Donald Trump’s TrumpRx initiative, underscoring the growing political strength of the issue in one of the nation’s most important battleground states.

Rogers, a former top aide and general counsel to Sen. Rick Scott, is running in Florida’s 2nd Congressional District, an open Republican-held seat in the Panhandle that includes Panama City and Tallahassee. Rogers has quickly emerged as the leading contender in the race, raising significant money early and building support among Florida Republicans and conservative outside groups. 

In an exclusive statement to the Washington Reporter that demonstrates Rogers’s healthcare expertise, Rogers strongly backed Trump’s healthcare affordability efforts and framed TrumpRx as part of a broader push to help working Americans struggling with rising costs.

“I applaud President Trump for launching TrumpRx and continuing to put American patients first,” Rogers told the Washington Reporter. “For too long, hardworking Americans have been forced to pay outrageous prices for drugs. That never made sense. President Trump has done what other administrations couldn’t. His administration is taking action to lower prescription drug costs and make healthcare more affordable for families across our country. President Trump is fighting for the American people.”

The comments add to a growing list of Republican candidates and elected officials publicly embracing TrumpRx as a major affordability and healthcare issue ahead of the 2026 elections.

The Reporter has previously covered expanding Republican support for the program, including praise from Sen. Tom Cotton and other GOP lawmakers who argue the initiative is helping lower costs for seniors, retirees, and working families struggling with prescription drug prices.

Rogers has positioned himself as an aggressive supporter of President Trump’s America First agenda throughout the campaign. His campaign website describes him as a “strong, reliable vote” for Trump’s policies, while emphasizing border security, economic growth, military strength, and affordability issues. 

The race for Florida’s 2nd Congressional District has already become one of the most closely watched Republican primaries in the state following Rep. Neal Dunn’s retirement announcement. Rogers’ fundraising strength and ties to major Florida Republicans have increasingly placed him near the center of the conversation in the crowded field. 

TrumpRx, meanwhile, continues to gain momentum politically as Republicans look for ways to demonstrate they are addressing kitchen-table affordability concerns. Supporters of the initiative argue it directly addresses one of the biggest financial burdens facing seniors and middle-class families: the cost of prescription drugs.
