EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Andy Barr praises TrumpRx for slashing drug costs: “real win for families in Kentucky”
Rep. Andy Barr (R., Ky.) has high praise for President Trump’s TrumpRx, arguing the program is delivering meaningful relief for patients in his state and across the country.
“President Trump is delivering on his promise to take on high drug prices and put patients first,” Barr told the Washington Reporter. “Lowering the cost of prescription drugs is a real win for families in Kentucky and across the country. I will fight side-by-side with President Trump to continue to bring relief to seniors, families, and people struggling with prescription drug costs that have been too high for too long.”
Barr, the leading candidate for U.S. Senate in Kentucky, joins a growing number of Republicans highlighting TrumpRx as a key affordability win ahead of the midterms.
Barr has received endorsements from leading conservatives nationwide and across Kentucky, including Senators Ted Budd (R., N.C.) and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. The latest polls show Barr is favored to win the Republican primary.
Barr’s statement follows the Wall Street Journal’s report that President Trump is leaning towards endorsing Barr–a top Trump ally–in the Senate primary. As of April 30, betting markets show Barr with an 80% chance of winning the primary, followed by Daniel Cameron with a 13% chance and Nate Morris with 3%.
The Reporter has also covered Barr’s work backing President Trump’s voter ID initiatives and Barr’s leadership in getting Markwayne Mullin confirmed to lead the DHS.
The program allows patients to purchase medications directly at reduced prices, with some reporting savings of up to 80 percent.
In a recent Reporter story, Sen. Eric Schmitt (R., Mo.) said the initiative is helping drive prescription costs “way down” and emphasized the importance of direct access for patients. Other House Republicans have echoed that message, pointing to the program as a tangible example of Republicans delivering on long-standing promises to lower drug prices.
The Trump administration has leaned into that contrast, arguing TrumpRx succeeds where previous efforts fell short by cutting out middlemen and giving Americans control over their purchases.
With influential conservative members like Barr elevating the issue, TrumpRx is emerging as a central talking point for Republicans seeking to show how the Administration has already lowered costs for Americans going into the midterm elections.
