EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Craig Goldman (R., Texas) says TrumpRx “benefitted” constituents, calls program a “tremendous first step”

Rep. Craig Goldman (R., Texas) is pointing to President Donald Trump’s TrumpRx initiative as an early affordability win, saying patients in his district are already seeing the benefits of lower prescription drug costs.

“The whole point is to bring drug prices down, and that was a tremendous first step,” Goldman told the Washington Reporter. “This surely benefitted my constituents, and I hope we see more of it.”

TrumpRx, launched earlier this year, connects patients to lower-cost options for branded prescription drugs through manufacturer-backed pricing and direct purchasing channels. The program is part of Trump’s broader push to reduce drug prices, including through a most-favored-nation pricing framework aimed at bringing U.S. costs closer to those paid abroad.

The administration has highlighted savings of up to 80 percent on certain medications, a claim that has helped build momentum among Republicans on Capitol Hill. Goldman’s comments reflect a broader push by lawmakers to frame TrumpRx as a concrete example of delivering results on affordability.

The Washington Reporter has previously reported on support from Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.), who has emphasized the program’s potential to lower costs for families, as well as Rep. Roger Williams (R., Texas), who has pointed to market-based approaches like TrumpRx as key to addressing rising health care prices. That coverage has helped position the program as a central part of the GOP’s health care messaging.

As the initiative expands, lawmakers are increasingly focused on its next phase, including bringing more manufacturers into the program and adding additional drugs. The early rollout has given Republicans a tangible policy they can point to as delivering savings without expanding federal bureaucracy.

For Goldman, the takeaway is simple.

“This surely benefitted my constituents,” he said. “And I hope we see more of it.”
