SANCTUARY CITY BAN: Sens. John Cornyn (R., Texas), John Barrasso (R., Wyo.), Ted Budd (R., N.C.), Tim Scott (R., S.C.), Cynthia Lummis (R., Wyo.), and Eric Schmitt (R., Mo.) released a bill that would ensure that local police can comply with ICE detainers and ban sanctuary cities from accessing federal funds.
THE MORE YOU KNOW: The Rep. Jason Smith-led (R., Mo.) Ways and Means Committee is holding another high-profile hearing next week; this one is with health system CEOs as witnesses. The committee is expected to hone in on abuses of the 340B system, which many view as a driver behind consolidation in the industry. A series of exposés show how large hospital systems have been posing as rural providers in order to get benefits from the 340B program. An editorial from the Washington Post on “how corporate welfare for hospitals is raising health care costs” has made the rounds on the Hill in advance of the hearing.
MAMDANI ACT: Rep. Chip Roy (R., Texas) introduced the Measures Against Marxism’s Dangerous Adherents and Noxious Islamists (MAMDANI) Act that would denaturalize and deport Marxists and Islamic fundamentalists.
NO MORE DEI: Rep. Young Kim (R., Calif.) introduced the Stop DEI Act “to ensure that institutions of higher education receiving federal funding comply with U.S. civil rights laws and uphold equal treatment for all students.”
