Rep. Lance Gooden (R., Texas) is leading his colleagues in Congress in applauding the Trump administration’s historic AI Genesis Mission.

Gooden, alongside Reps. Michael McCaul (R., Texas), Pat Harrigan (R., N.C.), Troy Nehls (R., Texas), Cory Mills (R., Fla.), Rob Wittman (R., Va.), Victoria Spartz (R., Ind.), Jack Bergman (R., Mich.), and John McGuire (R., Va.), wrote to Energy Secretary Chris Wright expressing support for the Energy Department’s “landmark effort to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionize American scientific productivity.”

“This pioneering public-private collaborative effort will revolutionize our nation’s ability to transform discoveries and innovations into deployable technologies, ultimately benefitting the American people,” the lawmakers explained to Wright.

“America must lead the world in innovation, not fall behind the Chinese Communist Party,” Gooden explained. “The Genesis Mission accelerates AI-driven discovery, strengthens our energy future, and ensures the U.S. drives the next generation of technological breakthroughs.”

Wright’s Energy Department describes the mission as one that “will develop an integrated platform that connects the world’s best supercomputers, experimental facilities, AI systems, and unique datasets across every major scientific domain to double the productivity and impact of American research and innovation within a decade.”

The lawmakers stressed to Wright that it is essential for America to integrate AI into the science ecosystem to compete with China and boost American innovation.

“President Trump’s November 2025 Executive Order launching the Genesis Mission leverages the full potential of American National Laboratories, technology, and industry,” they note to Wright. “Private sector innovators play a critical role in ensuring the United States remains the global leader in emerging technologies. The DOE’s rapid response to President Trump’s call to action by entering into new research partnerships with organizations at the forefront of health, energy, manufacturing, and technological innovation is commendable. This thoughtful collaboration will harness the unique combination of government resources and industry expertise to accelerate innovations that will benefit Americans for generations to come.”
